NOTHING IS HIDDEN BEFORE GOD: WALKING WISELY AND UNSPOTTED IN A CORRUPT WORLD By: Major Frank Materu
Key Scripture:
“Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.” — Galatians 6:7

INTRODUCTION
One of the most sobering truths revealed throughout Scripture is the all-seeing nature of the Living God. From the beginning of creation to the final judgment, God has never ceased to declare that nothing is hidden from His sight. Human beings may deceive one another, mask their intentions, and cloak their deeds under flattering words, but before God all hearts, motives, and actions stand fully exposed. This divine reality confronts the false security many people hold—the belief that they can do evil and somehow escape accountability.
The message before us is a stern yet redemptive call from God to His people living in times of unprecedented wickedness. Across generations, nations, tribes, and individuals have imagined that God does not see, does not care, or will not act. History and eternity testify otherwise. Hell itself bears witness to the countless souls who lived under the delusion that evil could be practiced without consequence. God is not mocked. Justice may appear delayed, but it is never denied.
Yet within this warning lies a profound hope. God does not speak merely to condemn but to preserve, instruct, and guide His people into wisdom, holiness, and life. He calls His people to remain unspotted from the world, to refuse hypocrisy, to reject the path of fools, and to walk courageously in obedience. This lesson unfolds the divine contrast between the way of fools and the way of the wise, the danger of hypocrisy, and the blessing of a life lived openly before God. It is a call to examine our hearts, align our deeds with righteousness, and choose the higher way ordained by God.

THE ALL-SEEING EYES OF THE LIVING GOD
“The eyes of the Lord are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.” — Proverbs 15:3
________________________________________
God begins by affirming a foundational truth: nothing is hidden from Him. Human secrecy is an illusion when measured against divine omniscience. People may commit evil in darkness, behind closed doors, or under the cover of religion, but God sees all. This truth dismantles the false confidence of those who imagine they can escape accountability.
Throughout history, entire civilizations collapsed because they embraced corruption while assuming immunity from judgment. Pride blinded them into believing that power, secrecy, or numbers could shield them from God’s justice. Yet Scripture repeatedly demonstrates that God weighs nations as easily as individuals. When evil becomes systemic and repentance is rejected, destruction follows.
For the believer, this truth is both sobering and comforting. It is sobering because no sin can be hidden. It is comforting because righteousness, faithfulness, and obedience are also fully seen and remembered by God. Living before the all-seeing God produces holy reverence and guards the heart from foolish confidence in secrecy.

THE FOLLY OF EVIL AND THE CERTAINTY OF RETRIBUTION
“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” — Romans 6:23
________________________________________
God makes it unmistakably clear that evil carries consequences. The belief that one can do evil and “get by” is a deception that has led multitudes into eternal ruin. Hell is not populated by people who intended to end there, but by those who underestimated God’s justice and overestimated their own cleverness.
God is not mocked. Every act of rebellion, whether public or private, carries a spiritual weight. Retribution is not arbitrary; it is the natural outcome of choices made against God. Those who persist in evil are not victims of circumstance but architects of their own destruction.
In these times of widespread wickedness, God’s people are warned not to partake in the corruption surrounding them. Participation in evil, even subtly, places one under its covering. God’s desire is separation unto holiness, not absorption into moral decay. Obedience is the place of safety, strength, and preservation.

KEEPING ONESELF UNSPOTTED FROM THE WORLD
“Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this… to keep himself unspotted from the world.” — James 1:27
________________________________________
God calls His people to a life of spiritual cleanliness in the midst of contamination. The world exerts constant pressure to conform, compromise, and excuse sin. Remaining unspotted requires intentional resistance and continual dependence on God as the source of strength.
Choosing God produces courage. When believers align themselves with Him, they are strengthened to stand firm even when surrounded by corruption. God Himself becomes their covering, cleansing them and preserving them from defilement.
This separation is not withdrawal from society but refusal to adopt its values. God does not intend His people to live under the contamination that leads to damnation. Through obedience, believers are kept clean, focused, and spiritually alive.

THE DANGER OF HYPOCRISY AND FLATTERING WORDS
“This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.” — Matthew 15:8
________________________________________
One of the gravest dangers addressed is hypocrisy. God exposes those who speak eloquently about Him while living in persistent evil. Flattering words do not impress God; obedient lives do. Hypocrites deceive themselves by equating speech with devotion, yet their deeds testify against them.
Such individuals love themselves more than righteousness. They delight in hearing their own words and believe their own delusions. Their hearts are hardened against repentance, making their condition especially dangerous. God warns His people not to imitate them or be seduced by their confidence.
God is not mocked by religious language. He discerns motives, weighs actions, and rejects pretense. True devotion is measured not by words spoken but by righteousness practiced.

ACCOUNTABILITY AND DOUBLE RESPONSIBILITY
“Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.” — James 4:17
________________________________________
God declares that all are accountable, but those who once knew His ways and then abandoned them bear greater responsibility. Knowledge increases accountability. Turning from truth to wickedness is not ignorance but rebellion.
Such individuals are doubly responsible because they rejected light they once received. Their corruption is deeper, their deception stronger, and their judgment more severe. God’s justice is precise and righteous, never swayed by excuses or appearances.
Obedience, therefore, is not optional. It is the evidence of love for God. Through righteous actions, believers demonstrate allegiance to Him and alignment with His truth.

THE JUSTICE OF GOD AND THE REWARD OF RIGHTEOUSNESS
“Say ye to the righteous, that it shall be well with him: for they shall eat the fruit of their doings.” — Isaiah 3:10
________________________________________
God affirms that He rewards people according to their deeds. To the faithful, He has prepared good things—peace, strength, preservation, and eternal life. To those who abandon Him, miseries, afflictions, and woes follow as just recompense.
God is not influenced by public approval or eloquence. He listens not to flattering speeches spoken for human praise. He honors righteousness practiced in humility and obedience.
This truth invites believers to live openly before God, confident that faithfulness will not go unnoticed. Serving God produces no shame and ends not in damnation but in glory.

THE WAY OF THE WISE AND THE HIGHWAY OF HOLINESS
“The highway of the upright is to depart from evil.” — Proverbs 16:17
________________________________________
God sets before humanity two paths: the way of fools and the way of the wise. The foolish repeatedly choose sin, proving themselves dull and unworthy. Their lives spiral downward into deeper corruption and spiritual adultery.
In contrast, the wise walk the highway of holiness. They aim for the higher life God ordains, refusing to run with the wanton or sink into madness. Gratitude sustains them, keeping them from the quicksand of sin.
God delights in upright living. When His people walk in righteousness, their deeds shine openly, bringing glory to Him and assurance to their own souls.
