THE CONQUERING FORCE OF DIVINE LOVE By: Major Frank Materu

Key Scripture: “And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.” (1 Corinthians 13:13)

Introduction

Love has always been the central theme of the Christian faith. It is the very essence of God’s nature and the ultimate expression of His relationship with mankind. The love we speak of is not merely human affection, nor is it the fleeting emotion that comes and goes with circumstances. Rather, it is the divine love that flows directly from God’s heart and binds His people together in unbreakable unity.

In our world today, marked by violence, hatred, division, and self-worship, God’s call to persevere in love is more urgent than ever before. The love of God is not sentimental—it is a force, a conquering power that tears down walls of hatred and pride. This love equips believers to live victoriously in a sin-sick world and to shine as ambassadors of reconciliation.

The prophetic word we are reflecting on today reminds us that divine love is both our weapon and our witness. It is the only force strong enough to conquer the cruelty of pride, the prison of hatred, and the deceit of the enemy. Without it, our lives become empty, vain, and bound for destruction. With it, we are enabled to overcome the schemes of darkness, walk in freedom, and extend God’s transforming power to others.

This lesson seeks to explore the conquering force of divine love in depth. We shall examine the dangers of pride and hatred, the power of love as God’s weapon, the necessity of allowing His Spirit to cleanse our hearts, and the call to live as ambassadors of divine love in a hostile world. Through the guidance of Scripture and the revelation of the Holy Spirit, we shall discover that true victory in this life is found not in might, not in intellect, not in possessions, but in the supernatural love of God that conquers all things.

The Nature of Divine Love

Human love is often conditional, temporary, and fragile. It depends on feelings, circumstances, or personal benefit. Divine love, on the other hand, is unconditional, eternal, and sacrificial. It is not rooted in human strength but in God’s very nature.

“Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.” (1 John 4:8)

To know God is to know love, because love is not just something God does—it is who He is. Divine love was most perfectly demonstrated on the cross when Christ laid down His life for sinners who did not deserve it. This same love continues to pursue humanity, longing to heal, restore, and bring reconciliation.

Unlike human affection, divine love does not change when offended, betrayed, or rejected. It perseveres through pain, endures hardship, and seeks the good of others even at personal cost. This is the love God calls His children to live in daily.

The World’s Hatred and Pride

The prophetic word reminds us that many in this world choose hatred because their hearts are hardened. They distance themselves from God and worship themselves. Their lives are filled with evil, even when they appear outwardly as “good people.”

“They claim to know God, but by their actions they deny him. They are detestable, disobedient and unfit for doing anything good.” (Titus 1:16)

This is the deception of pride. Pride blinds people to the truth, making them believe they are sufficient in themselves. It imprisons them in a cycle of self-worship and rebellion against God. Pride is the root of hatred, for when people exalt themselves, they naturally despise the humility of divine love.

Satan, the father of lies, fuels this pride and hatred. From the beginning, he has been a murderer and deceiver. His goal is to destroy lives, families, and nations by covering them with darkness and turning them against God. Those who reject God’s love, regardless of how moral or kind they may appear, are aligned with the devil’s agenda and destined for damnation unless they repent.

Love as the Greatest Weapon

In a world consumed by hatred, love becomes the most powerful weapon in the believer’s arsenal. Unlike carnal weapons that destroy, love heals, restores, and conquers.

“Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” (Romans 12:21)

Love is not passive; it is active and forceful. It disarms hatred, breaks down walls of prejudice, and melts hearts hardened by sin. While hatred multiplies division, love builds bridges of reconciliation. While pride imprisons souls, love sets captives free.

Jesus Himself showed us the weapon of love when He forgave His executioners, prayed for His persecutors, and laid down His life for a rebellious world. It was love that conquered the grave, love that defeated sin, and love that triumphed over the powers of darkness. As followers of Christ, we are called to wield this same weapon in our daily lives.

Allowing the Holy Spirit to Cleanse the Heart

To walk in divine love, we must allow the Holy Spirit to search our hearts and expose hidden darkness. It is easy to speak of love, but without the cleansing of the blood of Jesus, our love remains shallow and self-centered.

“Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” (Psalm 139:23-24)

The Spirit convicts us of pride, bitterness, unforgiveness, and self-righteousness—sins that hinder the flow of divine love. As we confess and surrender these, the cleansing power of Christ’s blood purifies us both inwardly and outwardly. Love then becomes not just an ideal but a living reality within us.

Without this cleansing, we risk becoming like the world: outwardly moral but inwardly corrupted. With it, we are transformed into vessels of honor, filled with God’s love, ready to pour it out upon others.

The Victims of Loveless Lives

The prophetic message reminds us that multitudes today live as victims of lovelessness. They know nothing but pride and hatred, for they have never experienced true love. Their lives are barren, empty, and broken, though they may wear masks of success or happiness.

“Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold.” (Matthew 24:12)

This is the tragedy of our times. Families are fractured, communities divided, and nations torn apart because divine love has been abandoned. Children grow up without affection, marriages crumble without commitment, and societies decay without compassion. In such an atmosphere, hatred thrives, and the devil rejoices.

Yet God calls His people to be different. By living in the conquering force of love, we become channels of healing to the loveless. Our words, actions, and attitudes can introduce others to the reality of divine love that transforms even the hardest hearts.

Ambassadors of Love in a Hateful World

God is calling forth ambassadors of love—men and women who will not be ashamed to live and proclaim the higher way of love.

“We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us.” (2 Corinthians 5:20)

As ambassadors, we represent the kingdom of love in a world of hatred. We demonstrate by our lives that there is a better way. Some will reject the message, clinging to their pride and sin, but others—those longing for change—will be melted by the force of love.

Ambassadors of love are not called to comfort but to courage. It takes boldness to love the unlovable, forgive the unforgivable, and reach out to those society has abandoned. Yet this is our mission. By doing so, we show the reality of Christ’s love and draw others to His kingdom.

Summary

Divine love is the conquering force that overcomes pride, hatred, and deception. Unlike human affection, it is unconditional, sacrificial, and eternal. In a world bound by sin, divine love remains the greatest weapon God has given His people. Through the cleansing of the Holy Spirit, believers are enabled to live in this love, reaching out to the loveless and demonstrating the higher way of Christ. As ambassadors of love, we are called to shine in a dark world, showing that true transformation is possible only through the love of God.

Conclusion

The world today desperately needs love—not the shallow love of human emotions, but the conquering force of divine love. Pride and hatred are destroying lives, but God’s love still heals, restores, and reconciles. As believers, we must allow the Holy Spirit to cleanse us, fill us, and use us as vessels of love. Only then can we overcome the schemes of the enemy and lead others into the freedom of Christ.

Final Word of Encouragement

Beloved, when it feels impossible to love, remember that God’s love never fails. His love has conquered sin, death, and the devil himself. If He lives in you, then His love will enable you to love beyond your natural capacity. Keep on loving, for as you do, so are you loved by God.

“Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.” (1 Peter 4:8)

Salvation Prayer

If you have never experienced the love of God personally, you can receive it today by surrendering your life to Jesus Christ. Pray this prayer with faith in your heart:

“Lord Jesus, I come to You today in need of Your love. I confess that I am a sinner and that I have lived in pride and rebellion. Forgive me, Lord, and cleanse me with Your precious blood. I believe You died for my sins and rose again to give me eternal life. Today I open my heart to You. Come into my life, fill me with Your Holy Spirit, and make me an ambassador of Your love. From this day forward, I choose to follow You. Thank You for saving me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
