“There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.”

— Proverbs 14:12

Introduction

We are living in times marked by increasing mockery of truth, scoffing at righteousness, and open resistance to divine instruction. Scripture foretold such days—days when men and women would abandon God’s way to pursue their own paths, convincing themselves that autonomy is freedom and rebellion is wisdom. Yet the voice of God remains clear and uncompromising: the broad way leads to destruction, while His way alone leads to life.

The message before us is a solemn warning and a gracious invitation. It exposes the deception of pride, the danger of self-perceived superiority, and the eternal consequences of rejecting correction. God speaks plainly that many who see themselves as enlightened, progressive, or superior are in fact blinded—blinded by pride and led by demonic influence masquerading as independence and wisdom.

At the same time, this message is filled with hope for those who have ears to hear. God reminds His people that redemption has been freely given through Jesus Christ, and with that gift comes responsibility, accountability, and the privilege of walking in truth. This lesson calls believers to reject the madness of the broad way, embrace humility, and walk steadfastly in the superior way of God— the way of truth, wisdom, and eternal life.

Mockers, Scoffers, and the Deception of the Broad Way

“Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts.”

— 2 Peter 3:3

Mockers and scoffers arise wherever truth is resisted. They do not merely disagree with God’s way; they ridicule it. Their mockery is rooted in departure—departure from God’s authority, God’s instruction, and God’s moral order. Having chosen their own ways, they resent any reminder that those ways lead to judgment.

The broad way is filled with enticements carefully designed to appeal to fallen desires. It promises freedom without accountability, pleasure without restraint, and wisdom without submission. Yet every enticement is a trap, drawing souls further from God and deeper into deception. What appears inviting in the moment becomes devastating in eternity.

God makes it clear that He does not intend for people to live this way. Their rebellion is not destiny; it is choice. Yet many persist because pride convinces them that they know better than their Creator.

The Illusion of Superiority and the Abomination of Pride

“Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.”

— Proverbs 16:18

One of the most dangerous lies of the broad way is the illusion of superiority. Men and women imagine themselves wiser, more enlightened, and morally advanced, yet God declares such thinking to be self-deception. No one is superior before the Creator. All are dependent, accountable, and finite.

Pride blinds the heart and darkens understanding. When pride takes root, correction becomes offensive and instruction is rejected. What is “right in one’s own eyes” replaces what is right before God. This state of self-rule is not freedom—it is rebellion.

God speaks soberly of those who died in such pride, entered eternity without repentance, and now dwell forever in damnation. Their tragedy was not ignorance, but refusal. They despised correction and embraced enticement, choosing momentary autonomy over eternal life.

The Madness of Foolish Independence

“The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise.”

— Proverbs 12:15

To live as a fool, die as a fool, and spend eternity in hell is the ultimate madness—yet multitudes take this path willingly. They prefer it because it requires no submission. They reject God not because His way is unclear, but because His way demands humility.

Ironically, those who boast of independence are the most controlled. While they refuse God’s instruction, they submit unknowingly to demonic influence. The very voices they think are their own are shaped by deception. The refusal to be told what to do by God results in being told what to do by demons.

God does not desire such rebellion, but stubbornness, pride, and defiance keep people bound. This is why divine correction is mercy, not cruelty.

The Mercy of Divine Guidance and Redemption

“Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.”

— Philippians 1:6

God calls His people to gratitude—not fear—because they have been spared the wasted years of vanity. Through the Holy Spirit, believers are uplifted, guided, and preserved from the emptiness of the broad way. Redemption through Jesus Christ is not earned; it is a gift.

God is both the Author and Finisher of faith. He initiates salvation and sustains it. Those who accept the gift of redemption are delivered from the penalty of sin and entrusted with responsibility. Salvation brings accountability to truth.

Believers are not meant to neglect truth but to stand for it. Truth is not restrictive; it liberates. As believers walk uprightly, they discover that God’s way is not merely different—it is superior.

The Superior Way That Leads to Eternal Life

“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”

— John 14:6

God declares unequivocally that His way surpasses all others. It is the way of truth, wisdom, understanding, and knowledge. All other systems—no matter how sophisticated—are inferior because they are rooted in deception.

The wisdom of the world’s wise is foolishness before God. Their brilliance is obscured by pride, their understanding darkened by lies. Pride remains the greatest obstacle to truth, preventing repentance and reconciliation.

Those who humble themselves under God’s authority are promised divine escort into eternity. Angels attend those who walk in God’s way, welcoming them into heavenly dwellings prepared by the Lord Himself.

The Danger of Proud Companionship

“Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.”

— 1 Corinthians 15:33

Pride is not only personal; it is contagious. God warns His people not to keep close company with proud men and women, because pride spreads deception and draws others into captivity. Association shapes perspective, and prolonged exposure to arrogance dulls spiritual discernment.

Humility, by contrast, keeps believers teachable, grounded, and responsive to the Holy Spirit. When the Spirit leads, pride is exposed before it matures. Therefore, believers are exhorted not to seek superiority, but right standing with God.

True security comes from being under God’s superior covering. Purpose flows from His goodness, not from human ambition.

Living With Vision, Gratitude, and Purpose

“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.”

— Proverbs 3:5

Many live for emptiness and perish in it. Believers, however, are given opened eyes and unstopped ears. Wisdom, knowledge, and understanding are gifts freely given by God to those who fear Him.

Life does not have to be futile. Purpose is found in obedience. Safety is found in submission. Sanity is found in God’s path. The way of transgressors is hard, the way of fools is madness, and the way of pride is abomination—but God’s way is peace.

As believers keep their vision fixed on God, they are preserved from wandering and desolation. They remain in the company of the redeemed and walk in righteousness.

Summary

This lesson reveals the stark contrast between the broad way of pride and the superior way of truth. Pride blinds, rebellion enslaves, and foolish independence leads to eternal loss. God’s way alone offers wisdom, purpose, redemption, and life. Through Jesus Christ, believers are delivered from vanity and guided into humility, truth, and eternal hope. Gratitude, obedience, and submission preserve believers in safety and joy.

Conclusion

God’s way is not one option among many—it is the only way of life. Those who reject it do so at great cost, while those who embrace it inherit peace, purpose, and eternity with God. Humility keeps the heart teachable, truth keeps the soul free, and obedience keeps the path clear. To walk with God is to walk wisely.

Salvation Prayer

Heavenly Father,

I acknowledge that You alone are God and that Your way is truth. I confess that without You I am lost. I believe that Jesus Christ is Your Son, that He died for my sins, and that He rose again for my redemption. I repent of pride, rebellion, and self-rule. I surrender my life to You and receive Jesus as my Lord and Savior. Cleanse me, guide me, and keep me in Your truth. From this day forward, I choose Your way—the way of life.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
