Divine Assurance in Times of Wrath and Wickedness By: Major Frank Materu
Key Scripture: “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.” — Isaiah 41:10 (KJV)

Introduction: God’s Presence in Perilous Times
We are living in a generation marked by rebellion, deception, lawlessness, and godlessness. In the midst of this spiritual and moral collapse, God continues to speak to His people—reminding them not to fear, not to be anxious, and not to fall into the dismay that plagues the world. While natural disasters, wars, corruption, and apostasy increase, there is a refuge—a place of divine protection and peace found in the presence of the Living God.
God's prophetic word reminds us that we are not alone. Salvation has been secured through Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit has been given to guide, comfort, and strengthen us. In contrast to a world unraveling in wickedness, believers are called to abide in peace, remain steadfast, and hold on to divine hope.
The purpose of this lesson is to awaken the hearts of God's people to the reality of His presence in these turbulent times. It serves both as a warning and a word of assurance: while God’s wrath is being revealed against sin, His mercy is ever present to those who trust in Him. Those who refuse to heed His voice and continue in sin will face destruction, but those who obey will dwell in divine protection and peace.
Let us explore this divine message in depth—understanding both the seriousness of the hour and the safety of abiding in God’s mercy.

You Are Not Alone: God’s Presence Through Christ and the Holy Spirit
“And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever.” — John 14:16 (KJV)
The believer is never alone. This is not a statement of emotional support, but a divine truth. The God who created the universe is present with His people. Through faith in Jesus Christ, believers are indwelt by the Holy Spirit—who brings guidance, conviction, comfort, and divine companionship.
Fear often gains ground when we forget this truth. Anxiety grows when we think we are abandoned. But when we look steadily to God, trusting in His promises, our minds and hearts are guarded with supernatural peace. The world may be dreadful and filled with wickedness, but the soul that rests in Christ is kept in perfect peace.

The Grief of God: A Generation that Chooses Sin Over Holiness
“But they rebelled, and vexed his Holy Spirit: therefore he was turned to be their enemy, and he fought against them.” — Isaiah 63:10 (KJV)
God is not indifferent to the state of this generation. His Spirit is grieved by the bold defiance, the unrepentant sin, and the idol worship that has filled the earth. He has extended His mercy repeatedly, but many have chosen rebellion over righteousness.
The idols worshipped today are not limited to carved images—they include money, pleasure, fame, self, and false religions. These are empowered by demonic forces and lead people into spiritual bondage and eventual destruction. It is not unjust for God to be angry with those who stubbornly reject His mercies; it is the rightful consequence of their willful disobedience.

The Curse of Idolatry and the Weight of Sin
“They that make them are like unto them; so is every one that trusteth in them.” — Psalm 115:8 (KJV)
Idolatry brings people under a curse. The things people trust in—if not God—become snares. They are lifeless, dumb, and powerless to save. Those who follow them become spiritually blind and enslaved to their passions.
This generation has normalized sin and perversion. Rather than feeling shame, many boast in their rebellion. This leads not only to personal ruin but to national and global judgment. Creation itself groans under the weight of humanity’s sin and longs for redemption. God’s wrath is being poured out—not arbitrarily, but justly—because of the multiplied wickedness of humankind.

The Manifestations of God’s Displeasure: Natural Disasters and Global Turmoil
“Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.” — Galatians 6:7 (KJV)
When sin becomes the prevailing culture, God reveals His displeasure through various means—including natural disasters, social collapse, economic ruin, and spiritual famine. These are not merely coincidental but are the results of spiritual laws being broken. As people sow iniquity, they reap judgment.
Some will argue that disasters have always existed, but the current increase and intensity are part of a divine pattern. God is speaking through these events—calling people to repentance. Unfortunately, most ignore the warnings, scoff at the messengers, and continue on their destructive path.

The Despised Prophets: Rejected Voices of Warning and Truth
“But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his farm, another to his merchandise.” — Matthew 22:5 (KJV)
God continues to raise up prophetic voices—men and women filled with His Spirit, calling the world to repentance. However, just as in ancient times, these prophets are rejected, mocked, and silenced. Many prefer entertainment and comfort over truth.
Mockers and scoffers are numerous in this generation, and their end is as tragic as their words. In hell, they are tormented by their own mockery. The warnings they once laughed at are now the judgments they live under. This is a sobering reality that should awaken anyone still playing games with sin.

The Peace for the Righteous: Living in Divine Mercy
“Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.” — Isaiah 26:3 (KJV)
Amid the judgment and chaos, God promises peace to His people. Those who abide in His mercy and trust in His guidance will be kept. This peace is not dependent on circumstances but on relationship. The more we rest in God's mercy, the more we are sustained.
This peace also empowers the believer to fulfill their calling. Opposition will come, accusations will rise, but God’s grace is sufficient. He vindicates His people and brings down those who oppose His purposes. Vengeance belongs to the Lord, and He will repay every injustice done to His faithful ones.

The Fate of the Wicked and the Triumph of the Redeemed
“The Lord is known by the judgment which he executeth: the wicked is snared in the work of his own hands.” — Psalm 9:16 (KJV)
Those who rise against God’s people and seek to hinder His purposes will face ruin. His wrath is not arbitrary; it is measured, righteous, and intentional. While the wicked may prosper temporarily, their end is sure. The faithful, however, are protected and exalted.
The difference lies in gratitude. Those who are truly thankful for God’s mercy will continue in obedience and receive even more grace. Those who despise it will be left to their own devices—and ultimately, their own destruction.

Summary
God is not silent in the face of sin, nor is He absent from His people. His wrath is being revealed against all ungodliness, but His mercy remains available to those who trust in Him. In a world collapsing under rebellion, God calls His children to abide in peace, reject anxiety, and live in divine strength. Though prophetic voices are rejected, God's Word continues to stand. His people must stay faithful, grateful, and alert.
